How We Started

In 1959, Charles Tashman and his son Mark came to the United States from Israel and joined a company that made door screens.   Through hard works, saving, and investing, two years later, they opened their own screen shop.  They expanded the business in 1964, adding hardware to their inventory.

Kenny’s father and grandfather, Charles and Mark Tashman, founded Tashman Screens in 1961.  By 1967, they had expanded the business to include a neighborhood hardware store, and Tashman Screens & Hardware was born.  Kenny has been working there since the age of 7, when he used to earn 25 cents a day helping around the shop.  He worked at Tashman all through high school, learning the business from the ground up, and, after earning a business degree at Cal State Northridge, Kenny took over running the store in 1989.

Kenny Tashman – Owner

Over the years, Kenny followed his father’s example, treating people fairly and believing that value meant quality products and services.  The formula worked, and soon Kenny remodeled the store, expanding to carry more high quality products to serve the ever-growing neighborhood.

As time passed, Kenny decided to expand the contracting business by offering more lines of windows and doors, glass products, and every kind of screen available. Tashman’s began serving clients all over Los Angeles. Some of our clients are developers like Advanced Construction, The Life Group, and Urban Housing.  We also work with homeowners from Brentwood to Los Feliz.

Kenny is also heavily involved in the West Hollywood community.  He serves on the West Hollywood Project Area committee, which is dedicated to promoting events and businesses in the West Hollywood area. He is also on the Board of Directors of Temple Beth Hillel, which sponsors a number of on-going charitable events such as the Interfaith Food Pantry.

“I like knowing that Tashman’s helps our customers. We’re dedicated to efficiently solving the problems our customers face in their home-improvement projects.  We give them value, and save them time and money.  I also love the contracting side of the business because I love the architecture and design you find in Los Angeles.  It’s unique and beautiful. When we get a contracting job, whether it’s a multi-story apartment or one family’s home, I like to feel that we are contributing to the unique feel of the city.”

Tashman Screens & Hardware has come a long way since Kenny first earned a quarter a day.  But Kenny and his Tashman team still focus on the things that made his father and grandfather’s store successful: Quality, Honesty & Value.
